I cut my teeth at the Proconian, the student newspaper at Chapel Hill High School. While reporting there, I was tapped to write a weekly update on campus activities for the local paper, The Chapel Hill News. I was hooked and here I am a zillion years later still plying the trade, even if not for a local paper because, sadly, we don't have one in my community. But that's a topic for another day.
This is Scholastic Journalism Week (#SJW2022), a time to celebrate student reporters and editors. I'm all in.
This year's theme is #AmplifyingVoices to encourage students to amplify their voices and the voices that may be unheard.
These are topics I've I've been presenting about at the National High School Journalism Conference for several years.
